The Golden Spider Silk Cape

The Golden Spider Silk Cape

Two men led a team of 80 people, spent 8 years collecting 1.2 million golden orb spiders in Madagascar, milked them for their silk, and created the rarest textile on Earth: A golden silk cape.
On average, 23,000 spiders yield around one ounce of silk. To create the textiles, spiders were collected each morning and harnessed in specially conceived silking contraptions.
Trained handlers extracted the silk from 24 spiders at a time. The spiders were returned to the wild at the end of each day.
