The Zimbabwean woman and her son claim to be in love with each other and they decided to take their relationship to the next level and get married considering that the mother, Betty Mbereko (from Mwenezi in Masvingo) is now six months pregnant and expecting her son’s child, and her grandchild.

Mbereko, 40, has been a widow for the past 12 years and has been living with her 23-years-old son Farai Mbereko.

She confirmed that she is six months pregnant and that she has decided it is better to “marry” her son because she does not want to marry her late husband’s young brothers, whom she says are coveting her.

Betty stunned a village court last week when she said the affair with her son had begun three years earlier.

She said after spending a lot of money sending Farai to school following the death of her husband, she felt she had a right to his money and no other woman was entitled to it.

“Look, I struggled alone to send my son to school and no one helped me. Now you see that my son is working and you accuse me of doing something wrong.

“Let me enjoy the products of my sweat,” she told the village court council.

Farai said he was more than prepared to marry his mother and would pay off the lobola balance his father had left unpaid to his grandparents.

“I know my father died before he finished paying the bride price and I am prepared to pay it off,” he said.

“It is better to publicise what is happening because people should know that I am the one who made my mother pregnant.Otherwise they will accuse her of promiscuity.”

But local headman Nathan Muputirwa says: “We cannot allow this to happen in our village, mashura chaiwo aya, (This is a bad omen indeed). In the past they would have to be killed but today we cannot do it because we are afraid of the police.”

He warned them to immediately break off their marriage or leave his village. They chose the latter and have since left the village for an undisclosed destination.

A group of thugs jumped a lone police officer on a back road and began viciously stabbing him with a box cutter. Thinking they had the upper hand, they were shocked when his patrol car door mysteriously opened. That’s when they realized they had made a huge mistake because this cruiser wasn’t like many others.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Todd Frazier was traveling down a deserted road during his night shift when he came across a car parked near a rest stop in Pearlington, Mississippi. Noticing that a man was inside the parked car alone, sitting along the wooded road with the lights off, Frazier decided to stop to make sure the driver wasn’t in need of any help.

As Frazier approached the car alone, he heard some rustling in the woods nearby, but by the time he realized what was happening, it was too late. Before he knew what hit him, the officer was under attack by three men — the one who had been in the car and two who had come out of the woods to ambush him.

“The deputy tripped and fell to the ground as he was backing away from the vehicle,” Glenn Grannan, Chief Investigator for Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, explained. “That’s when all three male subjects, including the driver, ambushed him, cut him on the forehead with a sharp object and dragged him into the woods.”

Frazier was outnumbered and didn’t stand a chance after being unexpectedly jumped. “They told him they were going to slit his throat, and they were dragging him toward the woods,” Chief Deputy Don Bass explained. Frazier was essentially easy pickings for the men, who were clearly up to no good and enraged at the sight of an approaching officer.

This is a case where what they didn’t know would indeed hurt them when one oversight came back to bite them — literally. Frazier was completely alone in a deserted spot — or so it seemed. However, his faithful K-9 Lucas was in his patrol car. The well-trained black Belgian Malinois only needed a way out, and what these thugs didn’t realize is that Frazier was driving one of only two K-9 units equipped with a “pop mechanism,” according to CNN.

With the touch of a button, the patrol car was remotely unlocked. Luckily, Frazier was able to hit the button during the scuffle, releasing Lucas. As the patrol door opened, the fearless K-9 officer lept into action, ready to save his partner. Now, the tables were turned, and before the thugs knew what was happening, they were struck by a fur missile who was none too pleased to see his handler fighting for his life.

“We don’t know how many he got; we just know he had blood all over him,” Sheriff Ricky Adam said of the aftermath. What is known is that Lucas not only defended Frazier but likely saved his life as well. Although the attackers fled, they weren’t all in one piece, but thanks to Lucas, Frazier was.

Police are now looking for three black males who fled towards Louisiana in a dark bluish or purple 2000 or newer Lincoln Town Car with a darker colored vinyl top. The department is depending on the public to come forward with any information to help apprehend the suspects involved, according to the sheriff. Anyone seeing a car matching that description is encouraged to call their local law enforcement.

Although he is expected to make a full recovery, the fight for Frazier’s life left Lucas with a torn ligament, broken teeth, and road rash, proving just how fearless the dog was in his effort to save his partner. The incident, however, has left the department rightfully shaken, knowing what could have happened.

Sadly, there is a hit out on law enforcement by gangs after a “shoot on site” or SOS order was issued by these criminal thugs against innocent cops, who are only trying to do their job. These gang members are targeting members of law enforcement with the hopes to kill, according to local gang intelligence, USA Today reported.

“It hits us hard, it brings you to your knees. We’re not a large agency, and all these guys have families,” Deputy Bass said. “The main thing for anybody is to go home safe. We want you to go home at night, but it could happen to any one of them,” he added. “The threat is here and the possibility is real.”

That chilling sentiment is the cold hard reality of a day in the life for members of law enforcement across our nation. The brave men and women who are tasked with protecting and serving their communities are literally risking their lives each and every day with no idea when even the most routine calls can escalate into untenable situations.

An unidentified man suspected to be a thief, was beaten to death and tied to a tree on the Tema-Afienya road Friday.

The naked body of the middle-aged man, revealed bruises, raising suspicion that he was heavily dragged on the ground before being tied to the tree.

He had his penis tied with a wire from a mini-advert billboard, while his knees were tied against a bicycle suspected to belong to him.

His ankles and wrists were firmly tied to the tree as well.

The murdered man smelt of petrol with blood stains on his nose, mouth and right ear, which was almost falling off.

This raised further suspicion among onlookers that his killers had attempted to burn him alive.

At the time graphic.com.gh arrived at the scene of the incident, curious residents and passers-by had gathered wondering who could have been behind the incident.

Several road users had also slowed down to either catch a glimpse or take photographs of the lifeless body.

The situation caused a huge traffic build-up on that stretch of the highway, inconveniencing several travellers and holidaymakers on Founder’s Day.

Nobody around could tell what could have led to the suspected thief’s killing.

Some onlookers who spoke to graphic.com.gh, believed that he was killed somewhere and later dragged and tied to the tree at the popular bus stop.

Aileen Wuornos (born February 29, 1956) was an American serial killer. The movie “Monster” is supposed to be based on her life. Her father, Leo Arthur Pittman, was a child molester who served time in Kansas and Michigan mental hospitals. He died by hanging while in prison in 1969. Wuornos’ mother abandoned Aileen and her brother in 1960 and left them in the care of their maternal grandparents.

Wuornos claimed that her grandfather physically and sexually abused her as a child and that her grandmother was an alcoholic. She also said to have had sex with several partners upon the age of 12, including her brother Keith. Wuornos became pregnant at the age of 14 and delivered her son at a Detroit maternity home on March 23, 1971. The child was put up for adoption soon after. Wuornos began to work as a prostitute while still in school. 

She soon dropped out of school to work the streets full-time, earning her way as a teenage hooker and drifted across the country.In May 1974 Wuornos was jailed in Colorado for drunk driving and firing a gun from a moving vehicle. In 1976 she married 76-year-old yacht club president Lewis Gratz Fell. They were divorced six weeks later.

 From 1977 to 1989 Wuornos was arrested several times, used different names and made her way to Florida. Wuornos’ first victim was store owner Richard Mallory in Palm Harbor, Florida. According to Wuornos Mallory had sexually assaulted her on November 30 in 1989 after tying her to the car. She killed six more men between June 1990 and November 1990. 

After being identified and put in custody she made a full confession and cited self-defense for Mallory’s murder. She was convicted of his murder in January 1992. Although it was later uncovered that Mallory had served 10 years for violent rape in another state, Wuornos was never given a re-trial.

 Wuornos received six death sentences for the other murders. On October 9, 2002 she was executed.

Nowadays it is illegal to execute pregnant women - and, with the long time the criminals spend on death row, the problem rarely arises.

However, in the past the problem did arise. The lady in question could “plead her belly” as it were, and was examined by matrons. If she indeed was found to be “quick with child”, the execution was postponed until the baby was born and some months of wet-nursing was allowed.

She might be allowed to hold her baby briefly after the birth, but she would very soon be taken back to prison. The child would either be placed in the care of a family member, or would be put under care in a State facility. The child would (probably quite soon) go into foster care.

The mother would be kept on Death Row through the process of appeals and reviews of her conviction. Around the time that the child graduates from high school (or maybe even when the child graduates from college), he or she would probably be permitted to watch his or her mother’s execution.

Iran Human Rights, May 28: Iran Human Rights (IHR) had published a report on May 26th regarding the public execution of "Mehdi Faraji" in Qazvin titled: "Young boy was used to carry out execution of a man in public in Iran". 

The information was based on eyewitness reports who said, "A young boy was used to draw the chair Mehdi was standing on and carry out the execution." 

In the statement, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the international spokesperson of IHR said, “These barbaric executions and using ordinary citizens, especially minors, to carry out the executions must be condemned by the world community.

” He added, “Iranian leaders must be held accountable for promoting a culture of murder and brutality in Iran”. 

In reaction to IHR’s report, Ebrat News, a site close to the Iranian authorities revealed more details about the execution in Qazvin. 

According to the site, the young man who carried out the execution was identified as Ali, 23, the son of Kimia, one of the women allegedly murdered by Mehdi. 

Ebrat News wrote: “The man was not a minor as claimed by some sites…so-called human rights defenders have forgotten that, according to the qesas (retribution/eye-for-an-eye) law in a murder case [in Iran], the execution must be carried out by the family or the oldest child of the offended”.

“The age of the young man used to carry out the execution does not change the fundamental issues surrounding the case. 

In addition to the main issue of execution, it is very serious that Iranian authorities use ordinary citizens to carry out inhumane punishments. 

By doing so, Iranian authorities place tremendous responsibility on the shoulders of its citizens. 

In this case, a young man who is grieving the loss of his mother has to also now have the responsibility of death on his shoulders. 

This is shameful and disgusting,” said the spokesperson of IHR Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam. 

"The young man’s mother was a victim of the growing violence and brutality in the Iranian society.
