All this took place in Iraq after the 2006 ethnic cleansing that the Shiites, backed by the Iraqi government and the US occupying forces, subjected the sunnis to in an attempt to quash the Iraqi resistance at the time. It worked, and freedom fighters were sadly replaced with what we currently know as ISIS.
