Taking matters into their own hands, Ukrainian locals have banded together to start taping looters up to telephone poles and lamp posts in the hopes of stopping them from capitalising on the Russian invasion.

Responses were split on the treatment of potential looters, with one saying it was "a bit too far" to force one into nudity, but another replied that "forcing himself into business/homes when your country is literally at war is a bit too far".

Ukrainian locals have resorted to taping up looters to telephone poles and lamp posts after local media reported a rise in looting amid the Russian invasion of the country

Ukrainians have resorted to taping looters to lamp posts and telephone poles after local media services reported spikes in looting during the Russian invasion, it has been reported.

Taking matters into their own hands, Ukrainian locals have banded together to start taping looters up to telephone poles and lamp posts in the hopes of stopping them from capitalising on the Russian invasion.

One user on Twitter took a number of photos of taped-up looters, saying: "On Ukrainian medias, such as it was reported to us personally by locals, as the looting and outlawness spreads in some regions of Ukraine.

"Locals are trying to stop the looters and bandits by themselves."

Images of the apprehended individuals show one man taped to a lamp post with another man with his back to him, also taped to the same pole.

Another circulated image shows a man with his trousers down, pinned up and taped to a post with a collection of bottles next to him.

One Twitter user shared a video of a potential looter covered in tape and unable to move from the pole with his clothing partially stripped off.

The user said: "This one had his pants pulled down and then taped in the freezing cold.

"Ok so you don't want to pick up a gun and fight for your country like most Ukrainians but don't go on looting homes and businesses."

Responses were split on the treatment of potential looters, with one saying it was "a bit too far" to force one into nudity, but another user replied that "forcing himself into business/homes when your country is literally at war is a bit too far".

Another user added: "My admiration of the Ukrainian people increases daily."

A widely circulated image that garnered more than 40,000 likes and thousands of retweets showed a man sat on the pavement and taped to a telephone pole.
